πWelcome to the ultimate guide on debunking the most common myths about lash lifts!
Lash lifts have become a hot topic in the beauty world, with many people seeking to enhance their natural lashes without the need for extensions. However, as with any popular beauty treatment, there are a number of myths that have arisen around lash lifts. Today, we're going to debunk some of these myths and provide you with the facts you need to make an informed decision about this treatment. Let's dive in! πββοΈ
β Myth 1οΈβ£: Small Shields are Always the Best
This is a common misconception that small shields always give the strongest lift. However, the truth is that the correct shield size depends on the length, curl, and eye shape of your lashes. If you use small shields with long or downward-pointing lashes, the curve will look unnatural and may not last very long. It could even curl back into the lid or not lift at all. So, remember, the size of the shield should be chosen based on your individual lash characteristics, not just because it's small.
β Myth 2οΈβ£: The More Solution You Apply, the Better the Lift
This is another common myth that needs to be debunked. The amount of solution applied does not necessarily correlate with a better lift. In fact, using the solution too high up on the natural lash or even on the tips can result in the lashes over-processing. The tips of the lashes are much finer and do not have a protective cuticle layer, therefore, they are more likely to get damaged. So, it's not about the quantity, but the correct placement of the solution that matters.
β Myth 3οΈβ£: It Doesn't Matter How the Lashes are Applied on the Shield
This couldn't be further from the truth. It is crucial that the lashes are applied at a 90-degree angle to the shield. You need to ensure that no lashes cross over and that they are straightened up from the root. This will ensure a natural-looking lift and prevent any potential damage to your lashes.
β Myth 4οΈβ£: Systems with Shorter Development Times are Better
The shorter the development time of a system, the stronger the solutions are, which means faster results at each stage. However, this can result in over-processed lashes which can damage the natural lash over time. It's recommended that only confident and experienced lash lift artists use faster processing products to avoid any potential harm to your lashes.
β Myth 5οΈβ£: You Can Get Your Lashes Wet Within 24 Hours of a Lash Lift
This is a common belief, but it's not entirely accurate. Hydrogen bonds in the hair, including lashes, are flexible and can be broken down by water and heat. When the hair gets wet, molecules enter the fibre and disrupt these bonds. However, once the hair dries, the bonds reform.
This applies to lashes as well. The only way to permanently change the structure of the lash hairs is by using steps 1 & 2 chemical products in a lash lift, which break down the disulphide bonds and set them into a new structure. If your lashes get wet, they may temporarily lose their new structure, but once dry, they will reform.
That said, we strongly recommend that you avoid getting your lashes wet and stay away from humidity for 24 hours after a lash lift. This isn't because water will ruin the lift, but because we apply moisturizing and conditioning solutions during the lash lift process, and we want your lashes to have time to soak these in. This stage is crucial because the chemical products used in a lash lift can dehydrate the lashes, so it's important to add moisture back into them.
As I always tell my clients, if you get lash lifts, it's crucial to apply lash conditioner and not just growth serums! The chemical products used in a lash lift remove moisture, so it's important to add moisture back to keep your lashes healthy.
